  • Shanti   Stupa

    This is one of the most picturesquely located chortens. The stupa is indeed a spot to visit and spend an evening. It is a Japanese sponsored chorten built for world peace. It was completed in 1985 and consecrated by HH the Dalai Lama.
    Sun rise during chilly months and evenings during summers can be enjoyed peacefully from the vantage point that this complex offers. Today, it is a prominent fixture in the terrain profile of Leh, next only to Leh Palace-Tsemo complex.
  • Sankar   Monastery

    A couple of kilometres from the Main Market,  is the official residence of His Holiness Skushok Bakula Rinpoche. The present incarnation of the Rinpoche is a child of 4yrs of age.
  • Leh   Jokhang

    The nerve centre of Buddhist activities of Leh and Ladakh, it has a large central assembly hall with an open courtyard in the front. Around the building, there are lots of hand-rotating prayer wheels. A small library is also there.
  • Leh   Palace   (Khar)

    The landmark of the town since hundreds of years, was once the palace of the Ladakh’s most glorious king Sengge Namgyal in the seventeenth century.
  • Zorawar   Fort

    Located at the end of the Fort road, Zorawar Fort is presently occupied by the army. It was built by Zorawar Singh it 1836 and was staffed with 300 Dogra soldiers. Recently, the army renovated the fort and set up a museum and started a light and sound show to showcase the history of Ladakh.
  • Hall   of   Fame

    It is a small well maintained museum, along the main airport road constructed by the Indian Army. Apart from the biographies of prominent army personnel and images, it also houses various weapons and other items of military use in the high altitude terrain of Ladakh. An entire section is dedicated to Siachen warfare and its heroes. It is worth a visit.
  • Datun   Sahib

    This sacred tree stands hidden in a lane, just behind the Jama Masjid in the Main Market. The tree is believed to have its origin in 1517 AD when the first Sikh Guru, Nanak Dev Ji, visited this place. Leh, as per the lore, was absolutely treeless and barren desert at that point of time. Guru Ji planted his herbal brush at this very site. The tree, therefore, is supposed to be the first tree of the town as such.
  • Pathar   Sahib

    Located on Leh-Nimoo road, about 20 Km from Leh, Sri Pathar Sahib is a place revered by all faiths. It is said once Guru Nanak Dev ji meditated here.
    A devil who wanted to disturb, rolled down a huge rock on to the saint. The rock instead of harming him left an impression of saint’s body. The same can be seen even today. The site, since discovery, has been built upon, maintained and managed by Army.
  • Sangam

    A newly recognized tourist spot. Well, basically its confluence of young Indus river and the mighty Zanskar. A nice cafeteria is being developed, with a picnic spot on the bank of confluence.
